Koh Lanta Nightlife: Top 5 Bars to Visit in Koh Lanta

The Best Area to Stay in Koh Lanta

If you’re staying in Koh Lanta for the first time, we recommend staying in Saladan Village. This bustling northern port town is home to numerous local restaurants, markets, shops, and accommodation. Not only that, but it is completely tourist-friendly. You can also find amazing scuba diving and snorkeling spots around Saladan Village, and witness the incredible marine life, coral reefs – and potentially even turtles!

If it’s nightlife you’re looking for during your stay in Koh Lanta, the area you’ll be looking for is Khlong Khong. This strip is popular with backpackers and holidaymakers alike and is full of amazing beach bars featuring fire shows, karaoke, cheap cocktails, and DJs.

One of the things to remember when visiting Koh Lanta is that it is a very different vibe to fellow tourist islands Koh Phi Phi and Koh Phangan. Both these islands are a haven for tourists and no matter where you choose to stay there will be a nearby bar, beach, or restaurant that will be sure to meet your needs. Well, Koh Lanta is a little different, and there are several areas on this island that aren’t geared to tourists. So, you do need to do your research when deciding where to stay in Koh Lanta – and that’s where we come in!

Are you ready to get planning your trip to Koh Lanta? Let’s get going!

Pimalai Resort and Spa

Found along the west coast in Koh Lanta old town, Pimalai Resort and Spa is one of the most luxurious, and grandest accommodations on our list.

This exclusive resort is certainly geared at those looking for upscale accommodation, and those that stay here will not be disappointed. Sprawled along a white-sand beach, guests are offered breathtaking views of the Thai coastline from one side, and views of the rolling tropical hills on the other. Amazingly, this huge resort still feels secluded, and if you’re looking for a private and romantic feel from your trip, you will definitely find it here.

As you can imagine, the rooms at the Pimalai Resort and Spa are beyond beautiful. With natural wood flooring and features, even the basic (and we use that term loosely) deluxe rooms are filled with expensive white linen, flat-screen TV, air-conditioning, and private balcony.

Included in the price of your room is breakfast, and comes in the form of a vast (and delicious) buffet. But the Pimalai Resort and Spa also has four excellent restaurants on-site, not to mention cafes and several bars too.

Facilities at this resort are also not lacking. In fact, they include two swimming pools, one of which is an infinity pool that overlooks the bay – absolutely divine. Guests also have access to a fully-equipped fitness center, tennis court, and garden croquet. If you’re looking for watersport activities, then you’ve guessed it, the resort has it. Yes, you can use the on-site beach activity center and try out kayaking and diving. You can even take a catamaran out onto the crystal waters of Koh Lanta bay.

If budget isn’t a factor for you, and you want to know where to stay in Koh Lanta, we couldn’t recommend this place more. The Pimalai really does have everything. And, whilst this atmosphere might call out to couples wanting a romantic vacation, families are also welcome at this beautiful resort.

This 54-acre boutique resort is a popular choice with tourists during the high season in Koh Lanta. With 83 luxurious rooms overlooking a private beach, you’ll easily find yourself swept away by the Crown Lanta Resort and Spa.

Located only a five-minute walk from Klong Dao beach – think beach bars and nightlife – the Crown Lanta resort is the place to be for both location and luxury. With a free daily shuttle running to and from Saladan Town, it is a popular resort for guests who want a balance of relaxation and exploration. And it manages the two perfectly.

Included in the price of your room is a free breakfast buffet, plus a made-to-order breakfast menu. Not only that, but guests can also expect free drinks on arrival, and wine and cocktail hours throughout the day. Free Wi-Fi is also available across the resort.

In terms of facilities, we love the swim-up bar at one of the two beautiful swimming pools. But guests will also have access to the fitness center throughout their stay too. Not to mention the incredibly inviting on-site spa for massages, facials, and beauty treatments (yes please!).

Layana Resort and Spa

If you’re wondering where to stay in Koh Lanta that caters to adults-only and provides VIP treatment, this is the place for you. The Layana Resort and Spa is on par with the Pimalai when it comes to exclusivity and high-end prices. In fact, if you choose to stay here, you won’t be disappointed!

Yes, before you even reach the Layana Resort, guests are treated to VIP treatment. How you might ask? Well, this hotel arranges its hotel transfers via speedboat – we’re serious!

If this hasn’t impressed you enough, take a look at the accommodation. Rooms range from the beautiful garden Pavillion Room nestled in luscious landscaped gardens to the more pricey beach suites. These impressive bungalow-style villas lead straight out on to the beach and feature outdoor showers, balconies, and al-fresco dining areas.

Breakfast isn’t included in the room rates at this hotel, but you’ll definitely want to check out the beachfront restaurant. Here you’ll find incredible international and Thai cuisine, all served with a side of Long Beach sunset views – dreamy!

If you’re looking for facilities, you won’t be disappointed with the Layana Resort and Spa. Whilst this upmarket hotel is quite obviously geared at those with a higher budget, don’t let that put you off. Even if you assume this hotel is out of your price range – it’s worth checking out their special offers!

The Houben Hotel

Located in walking distance – or a short Tuk Tuk ride – to popular Kantiang Bay, Houben Hotel is another one of our favourite places to stay in Koh Lanta.

Much smaller than other hotels on your list, this 15-room boutique has a romantic vibe. The hotel doesn’t accept children under the age of twelve, so it is a popular choice with couples looking for something a little more special.

Of course, it’s not only the child-free policy that makes this a chic and romantic choice of hotel. The facilities certainly add to the atmosphere, such as the modern attractive rooms with private balconies. And, for those splashing out a little more – outdoor hot tubs and sea views to boot. A generous breakfast is included in the price of the rooms, with all ingredients sourced locally and cooked fresh daily.

Facilities at the Houben Hotel are also very modern and add to the niche feel of this hotel. This includes a Belgian beer bar, an infinity pool with jets, a fitness center with cardio facilities. Plus, a spa with extensive luxury treatments – amazing!

The private and exclusive feel created by the small number of rooms and unique features of this hotel really make it stand out from the rest. If you’re choosing where to stay in Koh Lanta, we think this hotel should be high on your list!

The latter is perfect for families and holidaymakers, and are generally more modern in furnishings and decor. It is worth noting that Wi-Fi isn’t available throughout the accommodation. For some, this might be a problem. But for others? Well, they see it as a chance to take a technology detox!

Compared to other resorts on our list, the facilities here are modest. But that doesn’t mean to say they don’t impress. The pool at Kaw Kwang has beautiful views of the beach, and will certainly provide those Insta-worthy photos. There is also an on-site restaurant which serves excellent local cuisine.
