As you no doubt imagined, Krabi’s most popular resort town has all sorts to keep your belly full, from traditional Thai cuisine to more Western inspired dishes, and of course some truly amazing seafood.

To help you navigate what can be a pretty overwhelming selection of amazing dining options, we’ve put together what we consider to be the 7 best restaurants in Ao Nang, along with our favourite of all the seafood restaurants. We’re sure you’ll find more than a few places you’ll instantly love.

The Last Fisherman

the last fisherman ao nang

This tropical restaurant found in the southern part of Ao Nang offers diners an amazing location to chill out and relax. The Last Fisherman is located right on the beach, with amazing views of the ocean and the islands off in the distance, all surrounded by the perfect shade of the almond and coconut trees.

The whole restaurant is mostly open air, with only a handful of tables covered by two huts that shelter the kitchen and the bar. Many of The Last Fisherman’s tables are even on the beach, adding an extra level of relaxation.

While there’s nothing fine dining about The Last Fisherman, that doesn’t mean the food isn’t fantastic. You’ll find plenty of Thai favourites, along with western snacks, daily evening barbeques and a fantastic cocktail selection.

For lunch at The Last Fisherman, you’ll find the usual selection of standard Thai dishes, along with salads, sandwiches and burgers. For the dinner barbeque, the restaurant offers diners four set menus to choose from, which are sure to cover whatever you’re in the mood for.

One further area in which The Last Fisherman really stands out is their drinks menu, where you’ll find a great selection of original drinks, from healthy smoothies to alcoholic smoothies, and all sorts of colourful cocktails too.

The Last Fisherman is open each day from 11.30am to midnight.

Diver’s Inn Steakhouse

Diver’s Inn Steakhouse

First opened by German business partners Jeab Saenubon and Jürgen Weber in August of 2000, Diver’s Inn Steakhouse has gone on to become one of the most popular restaurants in all of Ao Nang, and in its 20 years in operation has seen its capacity and staff more than double from a 10 table restaurant with only 4 members of staff in the early days to a 22 table restaurant with 9 members of staff today.

Diver’s Inn Steakhouse has something of a rustic yet classy look, thanks to the building’s wooden beams and the restaurant’s wooden tables and chairs and red and white tablecloths. The atmosphere at the steakhouse is relaxed, and you can expect an excellent service from the staff.

The menu at Diver’s Inn is vast, so you’re sure to find something to your liking, no matter how fussy or particular you may be. All of the beef steaks are imported from Australia, and you can rest assured that they’re only of the highest quality. You’ll also find a number of sauces to choose from, along with all manner of side dishes. For those looking for something other than steak, Diver’s Inn has plenty of classic Thai or European dishes to choose from too.

The drinks list is atypical of most places, although those with a taste for German weissbier will be pleased to find some classics here. You’ll also find plenty of cocktails to choose from, and a fantastic wine list too. You’ll find wine pairing suggestions in the menu next to each dish.

Diver’s Inn Steakhouse is open from 11am to 11pm each day.

If it’s authentic local cuisine you’re after then this is definitely the place. At D&E Jungle Kitchen, you’ll find amazing dishes such as sweet and sour chicken, Massaman curry, spring rolls, and other Thai staples, all made with only the freshest ingredients prepared to the highest grade by D&E’s talented chef.

You can find D&E Kitchen in the south of Ao Nang, on the main road leading to Krabi Town. The restaurant itself is fairly low key, made only of thatch and bamboo.

Due to D&E Jungle Kitchen’s relatively small size it can often get busy around dinner time, so you’ll want to make the effort to get there early or make a reservation.

If you’re looking for great northern Thai food then Bussaba Thai Restaurant is the place to go. The restaurant is neat, charming, and modern, and can be found in the north of Ao Nang by the Krabi Thai Villaige Resort.

Bussaba Thai Restaurant first opened their doors to the public 15 years ago in 2005, soon earning themselves a reputation as a place to go for great quality cuisine in Ao Nang.

The venue itself isn’t one of the largest around, only able to accommodate up to 48 customers over their 12 tables, but this only serves to make it all the more intimate, and despite being a casual dining restaurant, it still has a great classy and elegant vibe. Bussaba Thai Restaurant also has a great atmosphere, and is a fantastic spot to eat for anyone looking to de-stress with some amazing mouth watering food after a long day.

Food wise, Bussaba has some of the best dishes available when it comes to classic Thai cuisine, but be prepared for a fantastic modern fusion twist. In addition to the à-la-carte menu, Bussaba Thai Restaurant also has a number of set menus for diners to choose from, each offering some great variety.

You can also expect the usual when it comes to drinks, with the typical beers, soft drinks and spirits you’ll find in most venues around the area. Bussaba Thai Restaurant also has a great wine selection, with imports from France and Chile, among others, available by the glass or by the bottle.

Ton Ma Yom Thai Food Restaurant

ton-ma-yom-thai-food

While Ton Ma Yom Thai Food Restaurant may not look like much, it’s nevertheless gone on to become one of the most sought out and popular hidden gems that Ao Nang has to offer.

The style at Ton Ma Yom Thai Food Restaurant is very simple, maybe even unappealing to some, and restaurant isn’t particularly large by anyone’s standards. Despite it’s relatively tiny size though, you’ll still find areas both indoors and outdoors, and you’ll very quickly find why this place has become so popular. All of Ton Ma Yom’s attention has been placed squarely in the kitchen, and it’s certainly paid off.

You’ll find some amazing traditional Thai dishes at Ton Ma Yom, all very affordable and all in very favourable portion sizes too, although be careful; if spice isn’t your thing you may want to make sure to let the staff know. The restaurant can also get incredibly busy too, so make sure you make a reservation ahead of time so you’re not waiting in line with everyone else.

Ton Ma Yom Thai Food Restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday, 8am to 2pm for lunch and 5pm to 9.30pm for dinner.

The Best Seafood Restaurant in Ao Nang

seafood thailand

If you’re going to be in Ao Nang then it goes without saying that you’ll want to check out some of the seafood on offer, and one of the best places you can go in Ao Nang is the strip suitably known as ‘seafood street’.

Located at the beach corner near The L Resort, you’ll find seafood restaurants of every kind on seafood street’s boardwalk, from the simple to the more extravagant, and this is an amazing spot to catch the sunset with your dinner.

Perhaps the best restaurant on Ao Nang’s seafood street is The Long Tail Boat, however for our money, for the best seafood in all of Ao Nang, we’re going to go to one of two rival restaurants found in the hills that overlook Nopparat Thara Beach.

Lae Lay Grill

If you’re in Ao Nang looking for seafood then you’ll be spoiled for choice, but for the aficionados out there, you’ll find nowhere better than Lae Lay Grill up in the northern part of the province.

The restaurant itself is some 40 metres up in the hills that overlook Nopparat Thara Beach, so you can be sure you’ll be getting in some amazing views to go with your equally amazing meal.

The atmosphere at Lae Lay Grill is truly stunning, and unlike some of the others on this list, the restaurant is nice and spacious, so you won’t have to worry about feeling crowded while taking in the views or checking out the chefs preparing all of the food in their open kitchen.

You’ll find all the best seafood you can imagine at Lae Lay Grill, and whether you’re looking for squid, mussels, lobster, you name it, you can be sure that it’ll all be as fresh as it is delicious. Lae Lay Grill also has the perfect wine list to complement each dish, so you know you’re in for a good time.

Lae Lay Grill is open each day from 11am to 10pm.
